Family Caregiving – Health Series / Sept. 10, 2015

Balancing family, work, and caregiving has an impact on employee well-being, as well as on business and productivity.

On Sept. 10, 2015, Chamber Healthcare committee took a ‘field trip’ to InnovAge, for a presentation about family caregiving.

Epi Mazzei, RN, BSN, PACG, walked the group through the many difficult aspects of being a family caregiver, and the many challenges both employers and employees face when caring for a family member.

She discussed best practices for supporting employee caregivers, costs associated with family caregiving, and Colorado House Bill 15-1242, which requires a designated caregiver for discharge from a hospital.

From a business perspective, Mazzei talked about absenteeism and presenteeism, and quoted Harvard Business Review saying “No one should have to choose between caregiving and work; and Forbes Magazine saying “Caregiving is a corporate issue. Caregivers are more concerned about eldercare than childcare. Caregiving is here to stay.”
